East Devon Shotokan Karate is dedicated to promoting the art of traditional shotokan karate.
East Devon Shotokan Karate consists of together four established dojos under one collective, with the aim of creating stronger pathways, broader opportunities, and a supportive karate community for all ages and abilities.
Proudly affiliated with the Karate Union of Great Britain, we remain committed to traditional Shotokan karate while working collaboratively to help our students thrive.
Who We Are
East Devon Shotokan Karate is a collective of four KUGB-affiliated clubs working together to strengthen karate across the region:
-
Exmouth Karate Academy
-
Lympstone Dojo
-
Clyst Vale Karate
-
Kawaguchi Karate (Topsham)
Each dojo retains its own identity, history, and community roots. What unites us is a shared commitment to high-quality instruction, traditional values, and making karate accessible, supportive, and rewarding for everyone.
Why a Collective?
By working together, we are able to:
-
Share experience and expertise across clubs
-
Offer greater consistency in teaching and progression
-
Provide improved access to competition teams and squad training
-
Support instructor development and young leadership
-
Create more opportunities for community engagement
This approach allows Shotokan karate to grow and adapt, while remaining firmly grounded in tradition.
